Lungs, Smoking and Asthma

Lungs

The lungs are a part of the respiratory system they are soft and spongy and cone shaped, they are two separated sacs or bags which take in air when you inhale, alveoli's are small sacs located in the lungs there are millions of them, and they take in oxygen and remove carbon dioxide when you breathe. Lungs decrease in size when you exhale because the diaphragm flattens and when you inhale the diaphragm contracts which gives more space for the lungs to expand as they fill up with air.

Smoking

Smoking destroys your lungs, cigarettes are full of chemicals that hurt your body, and they hurt your lungs with three types of grot nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide. Smoking can give you lung cancer, makes you lose your sense of smell, heart disease, shortness of breath known as emphysema, stomach cancer, mouth and throat cancer, stained teeth and bad breath, and more coughs and colds.

Asthma

Asthma is a common condition in the lungs; people who have asthma can experience coughing, shortness of breath, and tightness in the chest. People who have asthma get asthma attacks because of impure or unclean air which makes there trachea swell and that makes breathing harder so they use their inhalers to expand the trachea to breath easily, attacks can also be triggered by exercise, food allergies, weather, or even emotions sometimes.

Healthy and Unhealthy Foods

There are many unhealthy foods that we all eat but we also all know that eating too many calories makes you fat an example is eating 1 Big Mac meal which has 2000 calories more than half of what a adult needs a day which is 3000 calories. People should take notice of what they are eating and the amounts of it because you might end up with a blocked artery, you should eat less amounts of cholestrol and animals fats to stop that. Healthy foods should include lower calories and high vitamins and minerals, they should also have low saturated fats and high fiber.

Science Grade Letter

Dear Parents,
Your son has scored a total grade of 3 out of 6 in science, compared to other grades it wouldn’t be good but considering he is a new student and he missed out most of the topics it isn’t that bad. I think that your son could have done a better job but he tried, he should improve and catch up with other students this term though. Karim should work hard, he is a good student overall.

Digestive System Parts and Functions

Mouth:
The mouth breaks down carbohydrates chemically by producing saliva which slimes the food so it can slide down the esophagus easily; the mouth also physically digests food making it into smaller bits by chewing food.

Esophagus:
The esophagus is a muscular tube that squeezes the food down to the stomach.

Stomach:
The stomach stores food and mixes food which is mechanical digestion and that breaks down food further; the stomach produces an acid which helps breaking down protein and makes it easier for pepsin to break. Pepsin is an enzyme produced in the stomach which breaks down proteins.

Small intestine:
In the small intestine fats (lipids), carbohydrates and proteins are all finished getting digested. All these are absorbed into your blood for your body.

Pancreas:
The pancreas makes all the important enzymes for the small intestine to digest fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Lipase is an enzyme which digests fats, amylase is the enzyme which digests carbohydrates and pepsin is the enzyme which digests proteins. The pancreas also makes insulin in order for your body cells to suck up sugar (glucose).

Liver:
The liver makes bile which is stored in your gallbladder and sent to your small intestine to help break down fat. The liver filters blood from the small intestine and it also stores sugar so it can be released.

Large intestine:
The large intestine absorbs water it also stores undigested waste until it is expelled out of the anus.

Mouth Functions

The mouth is the first part in the digestive system first of all it physically breaking down food by chewing and it produces a sticky liquid called saliva that makes food softer and slimy so it can slide down your esophagus easily, saliva breaks down carbohydrates chemically. Saliva is produced from the salivary glands.
